Roles of Factor VIII in Endothelial Cell Biology More than a Coagulation Factor

Hemophilia A (HA), a rare bleeding disorder, presents itself with spontaneous bleedings that primarily consist of hemarthroses and intracranial hemorrhages. Antonia Follenzi, M.D., Ph.D., presents information on the potential role of factor VIII (FVIII) in endothelial stability and the significant differences in HA and healthy endothelial cells (ECs). Results discussed include the EC models and new insights into roles for FVIII besides coagulation, offering new therapeutic gene and cell therapy strategies in the management of HA patients.
