Diabetes primes neutrophils to undergo NETosis. However, the underlying mechanisms for this process remain unknown. Using blood neutrophils isolated from mice and humans as well as neutrophils differentiated from a promyelocytic cell line, this study by Siu Ling (Christine) Wong, Ph.D., aimed to delineate pathways that lead to aberrant NETosis in diabetes and hyperglycemia. This presentation features the unique role and function of sirtuin 1 in modulating the NETosis process.
